THE BOARD
We widened the board this week, from 366 companies to 525, so the totals no longer compare like for like with last week. Twenty-seven names are at or near their own recorded high, against twenty last week; as a share of the board that is 5.1%, against 5.5%. The notable change is the spread: for the first time every one of the eight legs carries at least one name at its high, up from seven. The average price across the whole board is 67.3% of each company’s high, against 69.3% last week, though the new names are part of that move.
EARTH — PHYSICALLY SCARCE RESOURCES
Six at or near high, down from seven, level with Health at the top. Cheniere Energy, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, EOG Resources and ExxonMobil all sit at exactly 100%. The three refiners in last week’s top five are no longer in it.
BUILD — THINGS WE MAKE AND CONSTRUCT
Three at or near high, up from one. Allegion (99.6%), Avingtrans (99.2%) and Emerson Electric (99.0%) are over the line, with Galliford Try (98.0%) and Ametek (94.2%) behind. Diploma, last week’s leader, has left the top five.
NEED — THINGS WE CANNOT DO WITHOUT
Two at or near high, down from three. Lotus Bakeries (99.8%) and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (99.3%) are over the line; Coca-Cola, at 100% last week, is at 98.7%. Philip Morris International (97.2%) and L’Oréal (96.6%) follow.
WANT — THINGS WE CHOOSE TO BUY
Three at or near high, up from none. The Beauty Tech Group (100.6%), eBay (100.0%) and Hilton (100.0%) lead, with InterContinental Hotels (97.1%) and Inditex (96.9%) behind.
HEALTH — KEEPING US ALIVE AND WELL
Six at or near high, up from five. AbbVie, Eli Lilly and Amgen sit at exactly 100%, with Gilead (99.9%) and McKesson (99.6%) alongside. Amgen is new to the top five; Thermo Fisher has left it.
MONEY — THE PLUMBING OF CAPITAL
Two at or near high, up from one. Berkshire Hathaway Class A and Beazley both sit at exactly 100%. ANZ Group (97.6%), Alliance Witan (97.1%) and F&C Investment Trust (96.3%) follow.
DIGITAL — INFORMATION, SOFTWARE AND NETWORKS
Two at or near high, unchanged. Apple holds at 100% and Eleco at 99.8%. Microsoft is at 98.0%, Shopify at 97.0%, and Palantir returns to the top five at 94.1%.
YIELD — REAL ESTATE AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Three at or near high, up from one. United Utilities (100.5%), Consolidated Edison (100.0%) and Severn Trent (99.5%) are over the line, with Evergy (95.8%) and Southern Company (94.5%) behind.
WHAT TO WATCH
Whether the spread holds. On the test we set on 5 October, reading this board as narrow fails if six or more legs carry a high for four weeks running; this is the third week (six legs, then seven, then eight).
Figures are each company’s latest price as a percentage of its recorded high, as of 26 October 2026. Descriptive only — no forecasts. Full register: moneyspider.net/micro.
